Ealing's Cheese festival returns

Back in June we launched our first ever 'Cheese Fest' - part of Evening Standard's London Food Month. You came in your hundreds to taste, buy, meet the experts and vote for the W5 Cheese Cup. And we're delighted to say that we'll now be making this an annual date in the diary with the launch of our 'We Love Cheese' festival on Sunday 8th October.

Delicious food and drink stalls will be open from 11am – 4pm by Ealing Town Hall. Drool over oodles of melted cheese, hard cheese, soft cheese, cheese for sandwiches, on pizzas, over fries or in deserts. Cheese traders from around the world will once again enter their best cheeses for the W5 We Love Cheese Cup. Or try out our pairing suggestions with local wine & beer specialists and find everything you need to create incredible flavour pairings and a true celebration of cheese.

Alongside the amazing locally sourced and International food there will be talks by producers, demos, popup bars and live music. If you love cheese as much as well do, see you there!

Cheese Fest is free to attend and you don't need a ticket to come along, but you will need a ticket to take part in the We Love Cheese Cup...


The We Love Cheese Cup

The only training needed to take part in the We Love Cheese Cup is a love of cheese and willingness to sample lots of different types.  For just £7 when purchased in advance, or £9 on the day, you will receive a Cheese Cup tasting card, which will entitle you to taste all the cheeses entered into the competition and receive a complimentary drink from one of our bars to enjoy along with your tasting. The winner will be announced on the day.

Cheese Fest line-up, June 2017

While our We Love Cheese line-up is yet to be announced, here are some of the traders who took part in our June event.

Capo Caccia

Capo Caccia Fine Food bring a taste of Sardinia to London with their unique range of charcuterie and cheese sourced directly from Sardinian producers. Firm favourites include Percorino Sardo; Pane Carasau – traditional Sardinian flatbread; gluten and lactose-free salami seasoned with fennel, myrtle leaves and sun dried chilli; and more unusual items such as Bottarga, a wonderful dried fish roe known as Sardinian caviar, which can be added to pasta or shaved directly on to vegetables for your next dinner party. Capo Caccia has entered the Pecorino blue cheese "Ovinforth" into the Cheese Cup.

Une Normande a Londres

Une Normande a Londres offer a wide variety of French goodies. Lucky for Cheese Fest, their main focus is on French cheeses. They also offer lovely cured meat from the Alps, as well as a nice variety of jams, patés, and honey. Everything is Artisan and sourced by Yann and Franck, the two brothers who started the company 20 years ago.


Enrico and his business partner Ewa trade Parmesan and the best Italian Cheeses from Borough Market / London since 2010.  After years of working with organic food in Italy, Enrico decided to bring true Italian cuisine to the British people. They are named for the Emilia Romagna area, home of the Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, Parma Ham, fast cars and nice wine. All their products come from small family-run artisan producers of organic Parmigiano Reggiano and other cheeses, aged Balsamic vinegar, organic vegan Prosecco, and gluten-free salami. Emilia have won a Slowfood award for Best Deli and Cheesemonger in London in the 2014 and 2015. They have submitted their Red Cow Parmigiano Reggiano for the Cheese Cupcompetition.

Mr Truffle

Mr Truffle specialises in sourcing the finest Italian truffles that nature has to offer and delivering them to you. With a combined 30 years of specialised, local experience, Mr Truffle select only the best truffles from the Apennines mountains, an area of outstanding natural beauty untarnished by modern agricultural techniques and methods. Their truffles hunters search daily for the finest quality truffles, and ship them to London, which is why their truffles are the freshest you will find in the UK. For the Cheese Cup, Mr Truffle have entered 'Truffle Caciotta’, a semi-soft pasturised cow’s milk cheese.

Somerset Ploughman

Somerset Ploughman owner Henry was born and bred on a farm and was milking cows at the age of 10, with the milk being used to make cheddar cheese. He later started farming and ended up growing 10000 cider apple trees to produce cider. In 2009, he had to give up farming so started the Somerset Ploughmen to showcase the best of Somerset Food and educate consumers about proper cider and real cheddar cheese. Today he sells cheese, chutneys, curds, pickles, jams and cider – everything you need for an amazing cheese board. The cider and cheddar cheese are slow foods, and the cheddar cheese is also raw (unpasteurised), which according to Henry offers many beneficial probiotics. For the Cheese Cup, Henry is offering a raw Westcombe cheddar with 34 probiotics that give a smoky backtaste.

Andaluz Trading

Andaluz Trading source and import the finest artisan produce from Spain, including extra virgin olive oils, sherry vinegars, fine wines and caviar. They have strong relationships with independent artisan producers from which they source their wonderful products. Andaluz have recently introduced artisan Spanish sheep and goat’s cheeses and charcuterie, which we are delighted to have at Cheese Fest. Their entry for the W5 Food Market’s Cheese Cup is an artisan Rosemary Manchego cheese from La Extremadura, Spain. 

Raclette Brothers

Raclette Brothers serve traditional Alpine street food with a modern twist. Everything is based around melting wheels of raclette, which is then served over garlic fried potatoes, homemade pickled cornichons and silverskin onions. 


Travelling Tiki

For W5 Food Market’s Cheese Fest, Parul is creating a variety of Indian-inspired cheese toasties. Look forward to paneer bhurji, masala sweetcorn, tandoori chicken, and slow cooked lamb keema, each packed in with grated cheese and slathered with coriander-mint chutney! Masala chips to order on the side too.

Muffin Man

Muffin Man & Co start with homemade buttermilk English muffins, then add scrumptious fillings like sausage, egg, bacon jam, pork belly and smoked Dutch eel, or smoked salmon. And each brunch sandwich will be laden with Oggleshield cheese in honour of Cheese Fest. 

Amazing Sherbet Company

The Amazing Sherbet Company create nostalgic sweets with a twist, using new or unusual flavour combinations that haven't been tried before. The sherbets are available in flavour collections and paired with lollipops for dipping, and all products are made from scratch using natural ingredients wherever possible. In honour of Cheese Fest, Amazing Sherbet have created new cheesy flavours and a box of sherbets for sharing - the Cheese Board Box contains 4 dishes of cheese sherbets (blue cheese and walnut; cheddar cheese popcorn; pesto, basil and parmesan; and 4 cheese) with 6 lollipops (3x red wine, 1x fig, 1x apple, 1x cranberry) for dinner parties or a unique gift for your favourite cheese lover.

GB Cheesecake

Great British Cheesecake serve . . . cheesecake, obviously! But their flavour offerings are far from expected with Lemon Meringue, Pumpkin, and Sticky Toffee Pudding on offer, or their “From the Tuck Shop” range (Reece’s Pieces Peanut Butter, Oreos, Mars Bars, Twix and Bounty) is always popular. In honour of the W5 Cheese Fest and to celebrate a Great British cheese, they’re bringing their Grape & Stilton savoury cheesecake to market.

Bliss Brownies

Richmond based Jill Anderson has been selling her decadent gluten free chocolate Bliss Brownies to for 5 years. Although her recipe remains a family secret, she admits to an extremely generous amount of 60% cocoa solid Belgian chocolate, combined with honey, free range market farm eggs, butter and rice flour that results in a moist, creamy consistency. In addition to her current favourite flavours Jill is introducing for Cheese Fest an Italian-style tiramisu brownie which combines a hint of coffee with mascarpone cheese.
