Cheese Fest 2017

June 11th saw the first ever W5 Food Market: Cheese Fest come to the streets of Ealing. An official event in the Evening Standard London Food Month, our monthly Sunday food market got cheesy for the day.

A glorious day was had by all at our inaugural Cheese Fest. Many thanks to everyone who came along to participate in the Cheese Cup tasting, and to our lovely traders who pulled out all the stops to make it a fabulous day.

It was stiff competition for best cheese, but in the end it was Capo Caccia's pecorino blue cheese 'Ovinforth' who narrowly pipped Andaluz's rosemary manchego 'Flor de Romero'. Special thanks to Ealing's own Abbotshill Wine Bar for a lovely place to relax at the market, and to Northfield's LoveHandmade who provided the winners' cheese board prizes.

Ealing Bites: Spring line-up

Eat Me Drink Me has released the Spring line-up for their Ealing Bites talks at the W5 Food Market, and there’s something on offer for everyone: from hens to rum and from baking tips to get-fit tips.

We’re looking forward to the April 9 market, when our resident bread vendor Desi Baker Boy will be discussing ‘Baking Speciality Breads at Home’, whilst new to the W5 Food Market Rum Cask will enlighten us to some of the history of rum, including its background with the Navy, and the meaning of ‘Gunpowder Proof’. Rum Cask will also host the bar at the April market, delighting us with their collection of cocktails all featuring rum.

May will bring Hen Corner’s Sara Ward, who will introduce us to her chickens and discuss urban smallholdings. The May bar will be hosted by London’s newest independent beer brand, Ealing native Long Arm Brewing Co., and we can’t wait to try one of their four unique brews. Head brewer Guillermo Alvarez will also be on hand to talk about the brewing process and answer any questions.

The W5 Food Market brings speciality produce and gourmet street food to the centre of Ealing every second Sunday of the month. In addition to hard-to-find buys and unusual treats, the market offers food and fitness talks, tastings, live music, a pop up bar and free kids’ crafts.

Ealing Bites is a series of talks about food, nutrition, cooking and health taking place at Eat Me Drink Me’s W5 Food Market. Each month, a selection of our regular traders or visiting experts share their specialist knowledge, offering Ealing area shoppers an opportunity to learn about specialist foods and be inspired in their cooking.
