Somerset Ploughman owner Henry was born and bred on a farm and was milking cows at the age of 10, with the milk being used to make cheddar cheese. He later started farming and ended up growing 10,000 cider apple trees to produce cider. In 2009, he had to give up farming so started the Somerset Ploughmen to showcase the best of Somerset Food and educate consumers about proper cider and real cheddar cheese. Today he sells cheese, chutneys, curds, pickles, jams and cider – everything you need for an amazing cheese board. The cider and cheddar cheese are slow foods, and the cheddar cheese is also raw (unpasteurised), which according to Henry offers many beneficial probiotics.
