Alpaca is an obsession for Mamacha. It’s warmer than lambswool, silky soft to the touch – luxurious yet durable. Mamacha is a registered not-for-profit company working with small community projects in Peru. They believe the most sustainable solution to poverty is to give people the tools and resources to help themselves. Mamacha knitters are paid a good wage, with the price being determined by the group themselves, taking into account the time and skills a project took to complete. Knitters are paid promptly, and often given raw materials when necessary. The resulting Alpaca jumpers, ponchos and accessories are truly beautiful, and not only because of the manner in which they are produced.
